BackgroundCoronary artery bypass grafting with cardiopulmonary (CPB) induces an inflammatory reaction that is associated postoperative complications. Influenza vaccination has been shown to decrease cardiovascular morbidity in patients disease, possibly via its anti-inflammatory properties. We hypothesize influenza would attenuate the after CPB.MethodsThirty undergoing coronary were blindly randomized receive vaccine (group I, n = 15) or a placebo II, preoperatively. Serum samples of proinflammatory mediators (interleukin-6, interleukin-8, tumor necrosis factor, C-reactive protein) as well interleukin-10 collected at different time points perioperatively. Assessment myocardial dysfunction was investigated by measuring hemodynamic data, echocardiographic and troponin levels.
